Welcome and overview of the course.
This is an introductory specialist level online training programme that addresses specific knowledge and skills required in delivering effective services to people from refugee backgrounds.
The course consists of a set of four modules which cover the following topics:
It is recommended to complete each module in order as the learning builds on from each topic.
Each module should take you approximately 30 minutes to complete. It may take less or more time depending on individual learning styles.
Following the completion of each module you are asked to complete a follow-up task. This involves reflecting on your learning and taking it back into your workplace to discuss with your line manager or colleagues.
Certificates of completion will be accessible once the four keys are completed.

This is an introductory level course which will open up the possibilities to developing your cultural awareness and can assist in unlocking your potential to building your cultural competence.
The course consists of a set of modules which covers the following topics:
- What do I know about diversity?
- Cultural diversity in Australia
- Who am I?
- Who is in the community?
- Cross-cultural communication and engagement
- Cross-cultural communication - specific issues
It is recommended to complete each module in order as the learning builds on from each topic.
Each module consists of the following
- a 30 minute lesson, which can take longer depending on the student's interest in the content.
- a follow up task to be completed in the workplace and outcome recorded in the course.
- additional resources (articles videos etc)
This course is self-paced and self-managed. On completion of the course you receive a certificate of completion that can be verified and signed off by your manager.
This course is the foundation course and must be completed before you can access the specialist course.
